Preparing for Your Wedding Photo Shoot

July 7, 2009 at 10:19 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , )

At www.TailoredWeddingDresses.com we can help you prepare for your wedding by creating the perfect, tailor made wedding dress and the dresses for your bridal attendants.

We know important it is to prepare for everything else wedding!

Here are some tips to help you prepare for your wedding shoot!

It’s always nice to know what you’re in for when you have your wedding photos done as this will prepare you mentally.

Important questions to consider prior to your big day would be what style of photos you prefer as this can be either traditional, spontaneous, arty etc. Another question would be whether you’d prefer colour, sepia or black and white photos; with or without frames or a mix of everything. This all needs to be discussed with your wedding photographer before the wedding day – besides the fact that he/she needs to know what your preferences and requirements are, the photographer can give you some guidance and advice on must-have shots so that the photos you imagine can take on real life form.

Although there are so many hair styles to choose from, keep in mind that you’ll have to look at these photos for ever, so I would advise against anything very different or extreme (the kids will probably just tease you about this later!). If you want your wedding photos to be timeless, go for a classic, simplistic hair style that would be easy to manage throughout your photo shoot and day. Its important to have a trial run with your make-up to avoid last minute disappointment. You know what you feel comfortable with, again, this needs to suit your personality. You want to mingle with your guests feeling comfortable and self assured. Your wedding make-up should compliment you, not change you – rather keep it natural and fresh.

Keep the main thing the main thing – firstly you need to feel comfortable and most importantly be yourself so that your unique personality would reflect on the photos. But a girl needs all the help she can get and if a few props will help you to relax and have fun – why not!

Take some props with or ask the photographer to supply some interesting objects that you can use during your photo shoot, for example a hat, colourful sarong (that will double up to keep your dress clean in case you have to get down and dirty), a wedding invitation, your garter, a cigar for the groom etc . Give your photographer some healthy attitude and the right tools to be creative. We so often invest our precious time in things that won’t last – yes, its important that you look absolutely breathtaking but besides looking beautiful, the photo shoot takes priority as this is what you would take with you long after the champagne has lost its bubble.

You can either shy away and lose out on stunning memories or you can forget yourself, go beyond yourself and have fun!

What to Look for When Buying a Wedding Veil

July 3, 2009 at 10:35 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Although many brides today walk down the aisle without a veil, it is still very much part of the bridal experience.  Some brides choose not to wear a veil because they feel it does not fit their personality, style, or matches the dress. Other brides simply cannot imagine their wedding day without a veil. Those brides who feel they must have a veil are probably the same little girls that have taken a scarf, piece of fabric, or shawl and made their own “wedding veil” as they played wedding growing up.

Just because a bride wants a wedding veil does not mean she knows how to choose one.

A wedding veil is the perfect way to complete the perfect bridal ensemble, from the dress to the jewelry to the shoes. The wedding veil is very much a part of the ensemble for many brides not only because it is a traditional part of the day but because of what it symbolizes.

The wedding veil symbolizes suspense and a new beginning for the bride, her groom, and all the guests. Choosing your own veil can be quite a difficult task. There is a wide variety of wedding veils to choose from and the prices vary as well.

First and foremost, when choosing a wedding veil, make sure that you have chosen your wedding gown. This is the best way to determine not only which style veil works best for you, but also what your budget will allow.

Use these tips and suggestions when shopping for a wedding veil to make sure that you get exactly what you want:

The Wedding Venue While you may not have considered it, the venue of your wedding will also have an impact on the type of wedding veil that will work best for you.

An indoor, formal church wedding is the ideal place for a formal, elaborate veil with all the trimmings.

If you are tying the knot outside on the beach, or at the courthouse, you may want a simple, short wedding veil.

The Wedding Gown - Think about the style of your wedding gown before you settle on a wedding veil. The dress and the veil should actually complement each other. If you are wearing an informal wedding dress, you probably will not want a formal wedding veil and headpiece. Also, if your wedding dress is long, the longer your veil should be and vice versa.

Remember to use common sense when buying a wedding veil and you should do fine.

The Hair Style – Think about how you will wear your hair on the wedding day. Are you keeping your locks long and lovely or sweeping them up in a funky, fantastic up-do? If you have short hair, you may not want to buy an elaborate wedding veil. Your best bet is to keep it simple and stylish. You may want to bring your veil to your hair salon for a few “practice” sessions before the big day.

The Hair Accessories - If you have already established what hair accessories, if any, you will be using on your wedding day, bring them along when you shop for the wedding veil. Remember, less is more, so if you have chosen beautifully detailed hair pins, you will want your wedding veil to be simple and understated.

The Veil Price - A key factor in staying sane during all the wedding planning and hoopla is to stay within your budget. When figuring your budget, determine how much you will spend on your wedding dress and the veil and stick to it. Many brides auction their veils after their wedding day, so you may find just what you are looking for if you are a savvy shopper. Other ways to save a few bucks when buying a wedding veil is to shop sample sales or ask to purchase the floor model. You could even make your own wedding veil if you are handy with a needle and thread!

One more thing… Remember, your wedding veil doesn’t have to come “as is.” You can have your wedding veil tailored by your favorite seamstress based on your specifications. This means that the veil will fit you perfectly, will not fall off, and will never overpower your dress. Tailoring your wedding veil will also ensure that the veil you wear down the aisle is like no other. The perfect wedding veil is out there waiting for you; you just need to know how to find it.

Using these simple tips will make the quest for the perfect veil that much easier.

Your wedding is a special occasion and an event to remember, so walk down that aisle in style!

Seven Closely Guarded Secrets For Hiring The Perfect Wedding DJ

June 22, 2009 at 6:51 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Many brides struggle with trying to find the perfect entertainment for their big day. This is a very important decision, because the entertainment can make or break the entire evening.

So how do you hire a wedding DJ?

I have laid out 7 helpful tips below that will help you select the right company for your special day.

1.) Friends don’t let friends DJ their wedding

Before we get into pricing, I just wanted to let everybody know that friends do not let their friends DJ their wedding.

Instead, you should have your friend attend the wedding as a guest or even in the bridal party. Just because they are your friend does not mean that you have to let them DJ your wedding. They may give you a killer deal on the DJ package, but are they really professional DJ material? I am sure there are many people who know pro wedding DJs out there that would be the perfect match for your wedding. However, I have heard the stories many times where brides wished they would have spent $300.00 more instead of having their cousins friend ruin the reception with blowup guitars, rap, and cheesy announcements.

A professional wedding DJ company will go over all the details with you ahead of time, so that there are no surprises.

2.) See Your DJ in Action

Honestly, most wedding DJ companies that you might consider hiring will not allow you to attend a private function such as a wedding reception. When you really think about it, would like to have some guest come uninvited to your wedding just to get free drinks and eat your appetizers?

A reputable company will focus all their attention on the client for that day instead of the next one being booked. To fix this problem online video demos come in handy. You can see event highlights of your DJ in action, and get a feel for how they will coordinate your wedding day while working with your vendors.

3.) Type of DJ/Personality

This will make or break the DJ company that you hire for your wedding. No two DJs are the same and with that said not every DJ is created equally. Some DJs will do any and every type of event, while others specialize in weddings.

When you first talk to the DJ over the phone, get a feel for how they present themselves during the conversation. Are they energetic? Are they passionate? This is what you can expect from them on your wedding day. Some DJs spend 30 seconds on the phone while others take the time to understand what you are looking for so they meet your expectations.

When you hire a wedding DJ you are also hiring the master of ceremonies. They will be your spokesperson for the evening representing both of your families. It is a wise idea to go with a company that has good chemistry with you and your fiancé.

4.) What Does Price Really Mean

Every couple wants their wedding day to be perfect, and they also want to save as much money as possible. So what does price really mean when hiring a wedding DJ? I am sure you have heard the old saying you get what you pay for, but quality entertainment does not cost it pays.

If you skimp a couple of hundred dollars on the entertainment your guests might not stay long enough to get your moneys worth from the hall, your photographer might not take above average photos, and that late night snack tray might go to waste as well.

When guests look back on your wedding day 10, 15, even 20 years from now, do you know what they will remember… if they had fun or not! So we know that going with the cheapest might cost you the most stress, but the most expensive does not mean the best either. Sometimes you are charged for setup and teardown, online planning, travel, and the list goes on. It is best to work with a company that can compromise with your budget.

A company that does not have any hidden costs and gives you the most bang for your buck.  This typical price range will usually fall between $795-$1295. Sometimes pricing can go over this range if you factor in custom options including Wall Accent Lighting, custom name monogram, and remote sound.

5.) References References References!

By far one of the most important areas to spend your time when figuring out how to hire a wedding DJ is feedback and testimonials. References should be recent, from within the past 6-12 months, and you should be given an adequate amount of them for the type of event you are considering (EX. you should not be given a list of corporate referrals for a wedding reception they are completely different).

If you are given a list of over 15 satisfaction surveys, contact 3 or 4 random brides and really listen to what they say. Ask them why they hired the DJ company, how the wedding DJ did at their wedding, and their overall impression. Any wedding DJ that is serious about your business will have nothing to hide and will provide references upon request.

6.) Talk with Several Companies So you talked with one wedding DJ company now guess what? Talk with another and another. The best piece of advice is to consult with several wedding DJs before making a decision on which one to hire. This will also give you a better understand of what you are looking for immediately! You will be surprised at the way some entertainers carry themselves. Just imagine how they will handle your ONE wedding!

Keep notes of all conversations and prices quoted for your wedding. Narrow your selection down to 2 or 3 ideal companies and make your decision from there.

7.) What about the contract and payments

Finally after you have your sights on a particular wedding DJ, enforce what you want with a contract. All the stipulations should be discussed before hand and all the important details should be included (location, date, time, # of guests, names, and phone number).

When going over the contract, also talk about how are payments made. Most wedding DJ companies accept a 50% retainer at the time the contract is signed to reserve your date. Usually the outstanding balance is due the night off. Majority of the time, payments can be made in advance if you are more comfortable with that. Will your DJ accept a personal check, if so who is it made out to? Small things like this will tell you how flexible a wedding DJ is, (this is a biggie when it comes to weddings). At most weddings the timeline will jump around plus or minus 10-15 minutes. Your wedding DJ will have to adjust to these changes without hesitation.

How Do You Hire the Right Wedding DJ?

This all depends on how you take the advice from this article. Every bride and groom is different and this means that they are looking for different qualities in a wedding DJ. The best approach to take when interviewing wedding DJs is to get a vibe of how they view you as a person and a client. Wedding receptions should not be done in a cookie cutter fashion. When weddings are personalized to what the bride and groom want, then this means that they hired the best wedding DJ available.

The Dos Do Nots, And Maybes Of Having Children At Your Wedding (And How To Dress Them!)

May 16, 2009 at 10:05 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We are having children at our wedding…  I can’t imagine not having my nieces, nephews and friends little ones running around, laughing and playing.

We LOVE to dress flowergirls, and little guests so much we have a gorgeous range of dresses (made especially for each girl!) at http://www.tailoredweddingdresses.com/page/1199359 and even individually tailored shoes at http://www.tailoredweddingdresses.com/page/98066204

But, not everyone and not every theme, agrees!  I found an article that may just give you some ideas.

Children and Weddings, a likely combination these days.

Most of the romantic and ideal wedding scenes we have seen in movies involve cute and huggable children. However, being the jolly, innocent and fun creatures that they are, most often, weddings, at least in the movies, involving children turn out to be hilarious and disastrously funny.

We know that children are always seeking fun and will not stop to entertain themselves during boring hours. Children can not easily cope up and comprehend the fun adults have on weddings. The occasion can be very boring to them.

When children get bored, they usher in trouble to adults. They can roam around, throw cakes at people, fight with other kids or ruin things. These are fun to them, but can be nightmares to adults, especially to brides and grooms during weddings.

Children and invitations

Admit it. The sad reality is that more and more brides, and grooms as well, do not like the idea that children will be coming over to their weddings.

Just the thought of crying children and children messing up with her gown and that of the bride’s maids make several brides throw up. Another sad fact is that some parents are not very sensitive to the issue. They could not think and understand how a bride could dislike cute and loveable kids in her wedding.

Wedding etiquette books and guides have it that the best way to exclude children to the occasion is to mention it in the invitations.

According to most wedding etiquette books, brides and grooms who dislike kids around their weddings can do two things: one, do not mention kids’ names in the invites; and two, spread the word that children are not wanted in the wedding.

The second option can be brutal, but it is nicer than having to control kids’ tantrums and annoying acts during weddings.

Because not all people understand and know wedding etiquettes, it is advisable that at some occasions, the couple should be straight forward to inform the guests before hand that the wedding would involve an adult reception.

Frankly telling parents-guests that kids will not be welcome in the wedding can also be a viable option. For some, the gesture will not be that polite, but practicality will tell other wise. Every bride and groom wants solemnity for their much- awaited moments. Understand that.

Another tactic to exclude children in wedding invitations is to mention the number of seats reserved for a particular guest. For example, Mr and Mrs Winterburg are reserved only two seats at the reception. That means, that Mr and Mrs Winterburg’s five kids do not have places in the wedding. They should know that.

If the guests still fall clueless and insist on bringing along their children with them, call them before the wedding and explain why children should not be attending the wedding. Educate them a little about wedding etiquettes.

Wedding etiquettes for children’s parents

For parents, if it is not mentioned in the wedding invitation that children are not allowed to attend the wedding, and the couple and hosts did not call to emphasize the idea, then it is safe to assume that you could tag along your children.

However, be informed and bear in mind the simple wedding etiquettes for parents. You would not want to ruin the wedding just because your kid suddenly threw an act or suddenly threw a tantrum.

Assume the position of the bride and the groom. Think of how you would feel if you were on their shoes, and children are creating scenes at your wedding. It would not be pretty and cute, right?

Make the initiative to leave your kids at home, if you can help it, when you attend the wedding. They could play around the house or watch the television or do their stuff at home. They might get bored throughout the wedding ceremony and spoil everything.

For those helplessly take along children with them on weddings, wedding etiquette experts advise you to make the most of the opportunity. In other words, make the occasion a venue or time for teaching the kids of simple and practical wedding etiquettes.

Make the occasion a teachable moment by informing the kid that he or she should behave through out the occasion just like how to adult guests behave.

This will be the best teaching occasion to shoe the kids how to act during weddings, or train them about some table and social manners.

Moreover, wedding etiquettes tell us to learn from each wedding. For the couple, on how to be good hosts. For guests, on how to be good guests and for parents to be good teachers to their kids who are incidentally, also attending the wedding.

Wedding and Time-machine: Discover New Marriage Ideas

May 7, 2009 at 3:33 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , )

Are you planning to get married?

Looking for exclusive ideas for wedding day? Search no more: I will share with you innovative fantastic ideas to make your wedding stand out and be remembered for years to come! If you want to have a wedding that is truly out of this world, it is actually very simple to achieve!

“How?” I hear you ask.

Well, all you need to do is to have an alternative style of dress, or to replace the usual Meldenson march with something a little more passionate, such as hard rock music for example! All invited to your wedding will be surprised and it will make your wedding truly unforgettable. If, however, you think that hard rock music is a little too much to bear, then how about putting on one of your favourite songs that is also original and lively?

We conducted a painstaking amount of research into the subject of weddings and uncovered several marriage ceremonies that you could call ‘out of the ordinary’. These ceremonies are famous throughout the world for their extravagance and significance.

We found ‘wild’ weddings, ‘fairytale’ weddings, ‘ethnic-style’ weddings, ‘exotic’ weddings, ‘retro’ weddings or even ‘time-machine’ wedding and, last but not least, ‘art-style’ weddings.

In the next few paragraphs, we will take you on a guided tour of these weddings and give you a report on the types of weddings that are out there for you to enjoy.

Wild weddings

We shall begin with the ‘wild’ wedding. This type of wedding requires you to be extremely brave, to cast away your inhibitions and to simply revel in the rush of adrenaline. The ‘wild’ wedding really does lives up to its name – it is so flamboyant and extreme! If you want your wedding to be in this style, you need bags of energy to be able to really let off steam and to party! To be specific, a ‘wild’ wedding is not a standard marriage ceremony; it is an exuberant fantasy which brings with it a tide of pleasure.

So, how does one achieve a wedding such as this?

Well, you need to think about how you can make alterations to the typical wedding scenario. In place of a bouquet you could carry a wreath, for example, you could wear Gothic attire instead of a wedding dress or hire unusual transport like a fast, sports car. How about organising a banquet on a quiet country lane or in a surgery? You could add to the fantasy of the occasion by incorporating alternative pranks into the ceremony. For two whole days you and your guests will be kept amused! At the end of the day, a ‘wild’ wedding needs to do what it says on the tin – be wild!

The idea of fantasy is to know no boundaries or inhibitions! Use this as a basis for your own ‘wild’ wedding!

Fairytale weddings

The next type of alternative wedding is the ‘fairytale’ wedding. As you can probably guess, dear readers, fairytale weddings are weddings that, yes you guessed it, are based on fairytales! Fairytale weddings are typically based on fairytales such as “Cinderella” or “Sleeping Beauty.” The dresses will be reminiscent of fairytale dresses and the heroes of the fairytales will always be present at your ceremony. These heroes of the stories make for wonderful entourage. If you choose to be a Cinderella on your big day, then you will need a fairy godmother, a king and even some ugly sisters! Of course, you must have a wicked stepmother too.

The crux of the occasion is the Ball, to which you will invite your ‘handsome prince’ – the groom. The celebrations end at midnight at which time a pumpkin-style carriage will draw up and whisk you away!

Ethnic weddings

The next type of wedding is the ‘ethnic-style’ wedding. ‘Ethnic style’ essentially means national style. Ok, so what does this mean you ask yourselves? Put simply, if you choose to have a wedding in ethnic style, then the guests, the groom, the bride and the caterers must all be dressed in national costume. The entertainment at this type of wedding is in the form of rituals, customs and observations of traditional, national ways. Revive old traditions from food to old elegant clothing. This ancient atmosphere will create time-machine wonders – it will take you and your guests centuries back; as though you were one of your ancestors!

The ideas for a ethnic wedding can be derived from customs of your motherland as well as from traditions of another country that you are fond of. Whichever you choose, you will feel like a true national! Exotic weddings The next type of alternative wedding is the ‘exotic’ wedding. An ‘exotic’ wedding is similar to a wild wedding.

But where at the wild wedding you can be elaborate with your dreams, at an exotic wedding you can incorporate your hobbies. If you love parachute jumping, then go ahead! If you like motorcycles, then no problem! Tie some tins-cans to a Vampire and off you go! Just make sure you have a courtege for the motorcycles. The bride can be dressed in white leathers with a bandana on her head in place of a veil. The groom can wear tight-fitting, black trousers instead of a morning suit and a necktie. A bride and groom on a motorcycle with tin-cans attached to the back, What a sight to behold!

Underwater weddings

Have you ever heard of an underwater wedding? Well, this style of wedding is a type of exotic wedding! The couple’s first kiss is underwater as well as the exchanging of the rings and even the signing of the register! To make the occasion even more exotic, you could have the ceremony on a desert island. Although whether you can call it a desert island after you have planned your wedding on it remains to be seen!

Retro weddings

The next alternative wedding is the ‘retro-style’ wedding. This style is in keeping with the period of the ’60s to the ’90s. What can we say about this type of wedding? Well, the traditions, the music and the attire all are reminiscent of this period.

The bride and the groom wear clothing that is typical of the time and the music and customs also conform to the period. Classic, ethnic and beautiful styles are all characteristic of ‘retro style.’

Body-paintings: art-style wedding

The final, alternative-style wedding is the ‘art-style’ wedding. If you know anything about art-style, then you will realise that if you have this type of wedding, you don’t just need to be brave, you need to be VERY brave!

Art-style involves decorating the body with special paints. Art style is contemporary in its design. The wedding attire consists of very unusual body paintings that can be almost anything depends on your taste and fantasy. Just imagine! Eastern Touch Influenced by an eastern tradition called mehendi to decorate bride’s palms, feet. In Western variations it expands to back and shoulders.

Imagine, a bride, with beautifully decorated hands, feet, shoulders and back, wearing open wedding clothes to demonstrate this artistic design.

Of course, to have this type of wedding it is also extreme. It is a very amusing way to enjoy the wedding. To put it simply, if you are a creative person who is not afraid of anything and anyone, then why not go for it?

Affordable Wedding Ideas That Could Still Make a Dream-Like Wedding Celebration

April 25, 2009 at 7:18 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

Planning a wedding on a small budget nowadays can be a very daunting task to do on the part of the newly engaged couple.
