Weddings Gone Green!
Atop the list of 2008’s hottest trends is going “green.”
More and more brides are turning to earth friendly products and services in 2008 than ever before. Keeping abreast with the current environmental issues, brides have become sensitive to the future of our planet and have been willingly letting go of some of the most popular wedding traditions in hopes of making a difference.
If you are thinking about going “green,” here are the top five ways you can achieve your goal without sacrificing the beauty and elegance of your big day.
1. Choose a wedding dress that you can (gasp!) wear again after your wedding day. Yes, this may change the feel of your wedding, but it will both save you money and save natural resources along the way.
2. Ditch the limos and spring for car service for your wedding party in hybrid vehicles. I know, I know – you think that having a limo at your wedding is a huge deal – but if you think about it, your wedding party is in that limo for all of an hour during your wedding day… AND for lucky brides in Colorado and California (so far) hybrid limos are available!
3. Hold your wedding in a garden rather than a reception hall. Reception halls are traditional, but very unfriendly to the earth. All of the energy used to power the lights, fog machine, amps, etc. is just wasted energy. You can hold your wedding in a beautiful garden saving mounds of energy and adding a touch of elegance to your special day.
4. Serve only organic, locally grown produce at your wedding. There is nothing lost in this process as the food can be prepared just the same as synthetic foods can, you just have the peace of mind of knowing that you are going above and beyond and providing only the best for your guests.
5. Splurge for earth friendly plates and utensils for your wedding. Trash is accumulating in landfills by the minute. By serving on plates made of sugar cane and offering only utensils made from potato starch, you are providing both a relief to the landfills and a hearty fertilizer to be made once the party is over.
Going green doesn’t have to be extreme or detract from your wedding day. By making conscious decisions and being aware of where each item that you purchase ends up the day after, you are single-handedly making a big difference in the future of our earth.
